Faith, Healing, and Hope Rooted in God’s Word

Pastor Sheldon L Stovall

Some authors write stories. Others write truth forged in fire. Sheldon Stovall’s work belongs firmly in the latter.

A pastor, counselor, and faith-based author, Sheldon Stovall writes from a place of lived experience, prayer, and unwavering belief in the healing power of God’s word. With ten published books to date, including devotionals, Sunday school lesson books, and spiritual growth resources, his writing is not merely informational but is transformational.

L Magazine: What inspired you to write devotionals and Sunday school lessons?
Sheldon: One of the deepest turning points in my life was losing my oldest brother, who was close to my heart. His passing left a wound that words could not easily heal. Not long after, my son was diagnosed with schizophrenia. Watching him struggle, feel hopeless, and feel lost broke my heart in ways I cannot fully describe. One day, he came to me and said, “Aren’t you a pastor and counselor, and you can’t help me?” That moment pierced my soul. I realized that God was calling me not only to pray, but to write, teach, and build tools that could bring hope, healing, and direction to those walking through mental, emotional, and spiritual battles.

What inspired me most was watching how God transformed my grief, confusion, and pain into testimonies. I saw how the Lord met me in broken places, healed areas of my mind, and rebuilt what life had damaged. That experience created a burden in my heart to help others encounter the same God who heals, restores, and keeps His people.

L Magazine: What makes your devotionals and lesson books different?
Sheldon: My literary work is more than writing, it is ministry. Every book is written with prayer, purpose, and a heart for healing. My goal is not just to inspire, but to help people experience real transformation in their minds, hearts, and lives through God’s Word. I also want readers to know that my work comes from lived experience, compassion, and a deep belief that no one is beyond God’s reach. Whether you are struggling, searching, or simply growing in faith, my books are written to walk with you, strengthen you, and remind you that healing, restoration, and hope are always possible through Christ.

My devotionals were written not just to be read, but to be lived. Each one is designed to guide readers into daily encounters with God that bring clarity, peace, and lasting change.

My Sunday school lesson books were inspired by a passion for teaching God’s Word in a practical, relevant, and transformative way. I wanted lessons that do more than inform; I wanted lessons that form hearts, strengthen faith, and equip believers to walk in victory. I believe the classroom should be a place of healing, encouragement, and spiritual growth, where people of all ages feel seen, valued, and empowered by God’s truth.

Ultimately, my writing flows from a calling to serve God’s people. I write because I believe healing is possible, restoration is available, and hope is alive through Jesus Christ. My prayer is that every reader encounter God’s presence, experiences His peace, and discovers that no matter what they have been through, they can be unbroken, restored, and kept by the Lord.

L Magazine: What do you want readers to take away from your books?
Sheldon: What I would like people to take away from this book is the truth that complete healing is possible. You are not your diagnosis. Whether you are suffering from grief, loss, depression, anxiety, trauma, addiction, schizophrenia, or any other mental, emotional, or spiritual struggle, this book is a reminder that your condition does not define your destiny.

Healing takes God’s Word, and it has been done before. God has healed minds, restored hearts, and rebuilt lives throughout history, and He will do it for each of you. My prayer is that readers leave with renewed hope, strengthened faith, and the confidence that no matter what they are facing, God is able to heal completely and lead them into freedom, peace, and wholeness.

L Magazine: What is your advice for those who want to write but are scared to do so?
Sheldon: My advice for those who want to write but are scared is simple: do not wait. Do not be like me and have to live through your message before you write it. When God inspires you, begin, even if all you can do at first is journal each day. Writing starts with obedience, not perfection.

You do not want to wait until it becomes imperative and lives are being affected. Your words could bring hope, healing, and direction to someone right now. Start where you are, trust God with the process, and let your voice be used to change lives.

L Magazine: Where can readers find your books?
Sheldon: People can get my books in paperback and hardcover on Amazon.com by searching “Sheldon Stovall.” E-books are also available on Barnes & Noble and Walmart.com.

L Magazine: Now for a fun question. If you were to pick a lipstick or lip balm, what color would it be and why?
Sheldon: That’s an easy one — clear! My wife loves your branding, and she would take all of mine, so clear is my best choice.

L Magazine: If you were to be lost in a bookstore, in what genre would you be found?
Sheldon: Christian Living and Romance

Sheldon Stovall’s writing is a powerful reminder that faith is not just something we read about, it is something we live. Through honesty, compassion, and unwavering trust in God, his books offer more than encouragement. They offer tools for healing, restoration, and hope.

Whether you are walking through grief, searching for clarity, or simply longing to grow deeper in your faith, Sheldon’s work meets readers where they are and gently points them back to the God who heals, restores, and keeps His people. His message is clear: no matter what you have faced, you are not broken beyond repair – you are seen, loved, and anchored in God.

As we celebrate the release of Sheldon’s newest devotional, Anchored in God: Daily Devotional for Faith, Resilience, and Renewal from the Book of 2 Samuel, readers are invited into a deeply personal and faith-filled journey. This powerful devotional was birthed through seasons of personal loss, unwavering faith, and God-led restoration.

Our featured author is 11-year old Samuel Jacobs, author of Samspiration. Jacobs turned some of his artwork from school and at home into a picture book that also documents some of his life experience.

He shared his journey to his mother’s home country, Nigeria, and a grave experience on one of Minnesota’s 10,000 lakes where he was on a canoe that capsized when he was about five years old.

In addition is an accompanying coloring book that allows other children to experiment with their creativity as they solve some brain warming exercise.
